Profile of lead Surveyor
Allan Coles
Small Craft Surveyor & Marine Engineer Consultant
Based in Portsmouth I survey yachts in Europe and the south coast of England.
My interest in yachts started at an early age with the help of my father. Together we fitted out a 26ft Kingswift bare hull (supplied by William Osborne's of Littlehampton).
This experience encouraged me to join the British Merchant navy at the age of 18, serving a formal apprenticeship as a marine engineer officer. I have now worked within the marine industry for over 30 years on vessels of all types, sailing as Senior Chief Engineer on large passenger ferries and high speed passenger craft. I have been involved in many dry-dockings and refits of various types of vessels, writing refit specifications and overseeing work in yards throughout Europe.
This wealth of knowledge and experience has allowed me to survey yachts of all types, specializing in GRP and Steel.
As a professional, I am committed to maintaining and increasing my qualifications to the highest standard and remaining at the forefront of new technology within the Marine Industry.
I am a Affiliated Member of the YDSA and carry Professional Indemnity Insurance.
